GATE
(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is the test conducted jointly by
the IISc, Bangalore and the 7 IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur,
Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee on behalf of the National Coordination
Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of
India.
GATE 2018
is being held by IIT Guwahati for 23 subjects ( or papers) and the
entrance examination would be distributed over 3, 4, 10 & 11
February 2018. The entrance exam centres are spread in various cities
across India and 6 cities abroad. The entrance examination is a Computer
Based Test (CBT). The GATE score would reflect the relative performance
level of the student in a particular subject (paper), which is
quantified based on the previous years of test data. The GATE score is
valid for 3 year from the date of announcement of the results.
Various
PSUs have also used the scores of GATE to shortlist the students for
employment. A few such organisations are: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited,
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals
Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, National Thermal Power
Corporation, Gas Authority of India Limited, Power Grid Corporation of
India, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, etc.
The
GATE exam is basically a test on the comprehensive understanding of the
students in different undergraduate subjects in Engineering/
Technology/ Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science
stream.
The application form was available via ONLINE mode only at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) from 31 August to 9 October 2017.
The
GATE 2018 admit card would be available only on GATE Online Application
Processing System (GOAPS). Students can download their GATE admit card from GOAPS from 5 January 2018. There is no printed copy of admit card will be posted to the students.
Students have to appear at the exam centre of GATE on the date and time specified in the admit card.
GATE result will be announced by IIT Guwahati on 17 March 2018. The result will be available on the GOAPS.
After the declaration of GATE results, only qualified students can download their GATE Scorecard between 20 March to 31 May 2018 from the GOAPS for the paper (subject) which they have taken the test.
